I'm sitting here watching the NY Phil's New Year concert with Sir Andrew Davis on public TV, and
Nuccio is getting all kinds of face time on the camera. Ultimately, I couldn't care less. His
sound is so superb, and his playing so lyrical/musical, I don't need to see him to enjoy it. In
fact, I'm kind of glad in those cases where they don't show him while he's playing his solos. I
don't get caught up in observation of the "act" of creating the music. 'Better to concentrate on
the beautiful music itself. There is often value in distilling the purely auditory element of
music making, both as a performer and as an audience member.

P.S. In cases like with the Dallas Symphony, closing one's eyes was almost required to enjoy the
music, lest the audience be utterly distracted by Andrew Litton and his obnoxious grab bag of
physical gestures and affectations. But then, that's what they pay for down there.
