Subj: [kl] mouth piece

I am currently using a Premier by (David?) Hite mouth piece. Is there any
opinion (with this group why wouldn't there be) on this mouth piece about
good or bad things? I switched to this after playing with a standard
stock for 5 years with many problems. When I got to high school I really
got serious about playing my clarinet and music. In middle school we went
through several directors and all assumed we knew everything about notes,
scales, and tonging even though no one taught use any of them. They all
said look at your black book to find the notes and scales. The black book
was the first in a no longer in print series we were working with. Since
we switched directors we never made it to the end of the black book so we
could start the orange book. If I can find my black book some where in my
messy room I can give you the title. When I started working with my
director he told me to try the Hite mouth piece because I could barely
play a high C with a standard mouth Piece. I was one of several who had
to play the lower notes and the low Bb scale. After trying that Hite I
hit all the notes (high and low) except a few high notes with no
problems. Those just needed a little embouchure work. Now I usually play
2nd instead of only 3rd. I play some 1st when needed (basketball pep band
games - solo clarinet with a few other instruments, 1 to 0 percussionist
- 0 preferred because ours can barely play) but mostly now I play what
ever part needs played. Sorry if there are any weird words in here but if
I read through it again the length will double because every time I read
it I think of more to add.
