Kevin,
Bill and Linda Brannen told me to use of 30 weight motor oil on the
mechanism after they had overhauled my set. I have noticed that when my
keys begin to get noisy, the motor oil quiets the mechanism and makes it
really smooth. Perhaps a little of the motor oil will help your noisy keys.

One of the benefits of the holiday season is that I get a little more time
to practice. I pulled out my Noblet C to run through some excerpts - I'm
going to be playing the Verdi Requiem later this season and thought it might
be a good thing not to go to rehearsal with a horn not touched in a couple
of years.

It's a reasonably good little clarinet, esp. given that I didn't pay a
fortune for it. It's seen a bit of use, both by yours truly and friends
that have asked to borrow it from time to time. It still seals up fine.
The annoying thing is that the keys make too much *&%$#@-----. I could
schlep the thing up to Morrie Backun in Vancouver, but it's just a couple of
the pivot tubes rattling around the rods.

I should be able to fix this myself. In his book The Working Clarinetist,
Peter Hadcock gives pretty good directions on how to swedge keys - I think I
could do this, either by swedging with the appropriate tool or accomplish
the same by inserting one of those little Teflon doughnuts between the tube
and the post.

Where does one get either swedging pliers or little Teflon doughnuts?

Thanks much,

kjf
