Dan, Dan .....

If your assertion were true, it would not matter a pig's derriere =
whether we
play narrow or wide bore basset horns or alto clarinets, whether we play =
C
parts on C clarinets, A parts on A clarinets, Bb parts on Bb clarinets, =
or
whether we play K622 on the Bb transposed down a halftone or an eefer =
with
basset extension, unless you include all the above differences in =
"little".
You have argued on infinite occasions (and I agree) that it is important =
to
achieve the sound intended by or at least vaguely in the mind of the
composer when s/he specified a particular clarinet. An instrument is for
sure necessary to turn the airstream into sound, and each transfer =
function
will differ. Your assertions are ... assertions.

Your substantive point, that the player and the production of the =
airstream
are absolutely critical, and the stuff that we all should concentrate =
on, is
of course perfectly true. But you, Forest and I can do a blind test in =
Santa
Fe next month, and see if we and others can tell any difference between =
the
sound of ours and his basset horns when played by the same person. If we
can, you owe me a pizza.

Cheers

Keith Bowen
