I have been using DC Art Millenium (by Diamond Cut Productions, $99) for
transferring 78s, LPs, and tapes to CD. Editing is fairly easy, and the
facilities for noise reduction are extensive. Once the editing is done, I
usually use Easy CD Creator for the actual burning process, although DC Art
Millenium does have the capability. Both are for PC, although Easy CD
Creator's Mac version, called Toast, is supposed to be good. Diamond Cut
has even more expensive and more capable versions of their software, but
Millenium is much more than basic. My computer is getting long in the
tooth (only a 1 GHz processor) but it is plenty fast enough for the
program, and my sound card is nothing special, but the results have been
quite good.

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is TOO LOUD!
