Subj: [kl] Question about computer/audio editing
Date: Sun, 28 Dec 2003 22:12:10 -0500

Happy Holidays List Members! I have a question regarding computer choices
and easy to use audio editing programs. I figure Ben Maas and others who
know a lot about this will be able to help me on this one. I am looking for
a new laptop to replace my old desktop. I want a laptop to save space and
allow me to do some editing away from home. For the laptop, what do you all
suggest? What processor speeds, hard drive sizes, etc should I be shooting
for? (I am looking to spend around $1300 or less.) I have heard that Macs
are the way to go for audio editing, but who knows?
For the editing, I am looking to do simple things such as transferring from
mini disc to cd with minor tasks such as splicing and normalizing and if I
learn how, do some noise reduction. I am familar with the Peak program, but
what else do you all suggest? I know that is a Mac only prog, so what is
out there if I choose a PC? Oh, and I am using a soundblaster extigy for my
soundcard, if that makes any difference on the laptop choices.

Thank you all for the info to help in an area that I feel completely
overwhelmed by,
