On the subject of C clarinets:
In our Greek folk music the favorite "klarino" is the C (of course in Albert system). In the last 40 or 50 years, many of the folk musicians began to use Bb for two reasons, I think. Male singers' voices were often not high enough for the popular keys of A and G, and secondly, the Bb is easier to play in the higher regesters and is more mellow there as well.
Anyway, the C is still alive and well in Greek music.
(I know this is a different venue, but I thought many might not know that the C is favored somewhere.)
