hi
i am new to the klarinet list.
my name is michael ginesi.
i have a shop for woodwind instrument restorations and repairs in central new
jersey. i like to say i specialize in vintage instruments...i also buy and
sell vintage instruments. i do special work on string instrument if desired
but i do not make a hullabalu about that. i do repairs and refacings upon
mouthpieces for sax and clarinet - following in the fashion of the original
makers. i will always [attempt] to dissuade individuals from alterations that
would change the inherent qualities of a particular piece - in favor, rather,
to move their thinking to a new[er] piece that would suit their
inclanations...

my background includes a degree in music, and a master degree in business
administration. i have worked upon instruments for over 40 years...as a
necessity at first, then apprenticing myself to whomever might take the time
to facilitate learning...never full time until the last few years, as
responsibilities demanded other pathways through time. it has, however,
always been joy, not work. time is suspended in the shop...
my interests are of course clarinets, and reed instruments...but i am of the
life long learning school that demands not just knowing how to do
something...but the what, why, when, where, what if...i have a fervor for
research, and in perhaps, the most seemingly obscure areas...yet many come
together in music...acoustic, botony, organic chemistry, physics, statistics
[which i have taught at university]...
hopefully, i might lend some interesting information to the group...and gleen
a bit of learning myself in the process.
