Of course it does not sound awkward. It's a perfectly suitable but
quite incorrect connection to the coda. The manuscript is the item to
be evaluated and the reasonableness of the evidence, not how it sounds
to people who have heard and played the work incorrectly for 40 years.

And when I say "incorrect" I explicitly refer to the fact that it is not
what Mozart requested. The fact that this was not recognized earlier is
unfortunate but nobody ever looked at that measure with curious eyes.
