Dear Audrey & List,
C.C. Lin has been writing to me privately for several months trying
to prepare his audition for Texas All State. When I answered his
question about "Marcellus" mouthpieces, I thought it was another one of
his letters to me. He had just written me one five minutes earlier about
Leblanc Concerto clarinets.
I am sorry that I broadcasted my opinions to the Klarinet List. But
after having played on a Kasper 13 for many years, I have not found any
"imitations" that appeal to me. I used to hear Marcellus play nearly
every week when I went to Oberlin. I spent a lot of time in Severance
Hall in Cleveland listening to him. I loved the way he played and the
tone that he produced. I have not heard many Marcellus "devotees" that
sound anything like him. I do not wish to get into any discussions or
arguments about mouthpieces with anybody. ANNIE
