That's been our experience and our practice as well.

That was, of course, the main point of my question. If it's just this
instrument, the obvious solution would be to try to exchange it before the
warrantee runs out. I'll probably also take the time to do the some checking
with other instruments over the next few weeks. Please let me know if you
find anything consistent. Thanks.
