Subj: [kl] HELP! Oboe Adjustment!
Date: Fri, 5 Dec 2003 19:26:54 -0500

Do any of you double on oboe/repair oboes?

After years and years of playing the clarinet, I recently got a used oboe,
and have been playing at it for the past two weeks. Things have been going
swimmingly. The instrument seemed to be in good adjustment, and I have been really
pleased with my progress.

Tonight the lower register B nat (LH 1st finger) was sounding a little
stuffy, so I attempted to adjust the screw between the B and A keys. Now I can't get
the lower part of the low register to sound AT ALL. The upper register is
fine, and the left-hand part of the lower register is fine, but no sound at all
from the lower tones (which were just dandy).

I'm devastated (she says, sobbing)! I just LOVE this instrument. Can
anybody, please, tell me -- what did I do? and how can I fix it? It must be something
really simple, but I can't figure it out.
