I am FAR from being an expert but I do know there is more to a mouthpiece
than what it is made of.

Hard rubber is the preferred material for most players, but just because a
mouthpiece is made from hard rubber doesn't mean it is a good one. There
are good and lousy examples of wood and plastic models, too. There are
also glass (okay..."crystal"...that sounds more elegant) and metal
mouthpieces available...

Clark Fobes' Debut is a good example of a plastic (acrylic) mouthpiece that
plays better than many hard rubber ones!!!!
