Just to jump into this thread, I had the good fortune to visit the Musik
Museet in Stockholm about a week ago.
There were some wonderful old instruments ( many woodwinds, as well as
an old sackbut I found fascinating), as well as a section that focussed
on what we estadounidenses refer to as World Music, or ethnic
instruments. There was also a recreated violin maker's bench, which was
fascinating to the point of being a bit intimidating, since one look and
you are thrown back in time to the days of the old makers.
There was a more modern section (there was even a small ABBA display,
but it didn't grate on my nerves all that much).
In addition to everything ELSE it had, there was also an entire floor
devoted to Sounds - everyday sounds we live with, and sound's influence
on human beings. I would have loved to be able to read Swedish much
better than I do (almost not at all!) so I could understand this better.
All in all, it was fascinating; I plan to drag my boyfriend back again.
He enjoyed playing on stuff that was open for people to mess around with
(some recreations, etc.)
