I played a piece that was written for Bluegrass Band and Symphony Orchestra some years ago in the Victoria, Texas Symphony Orchestra. I don't remember the composer, but the piece was written for the McClain Family Band. The McClain Family Band was a great group, but only the father could actually read music. He would play or sing what they had to tell them where we were rehearsing. The players and singers were wonderful and they learned the entire symphony by rote. The piece is an excellent piece.
