Nancy,
It's in Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin, just west of Madison. From Vermillion,
SD, it's directly due east, all the way across Iowa then almost halfway
across Wisconsin. I went past Mt. Horeb once, on the way to Dubuque by
car, but didn't know about the Mustard Museum at the time, so didn't
stop to check it out in person. I found it some time later on the
internet, quite by accident.
Actually the Mount Horeb Mustard Museum is as much a mustard shop
(and repository of comedy, it seems) as a museum, even though as museum
it boasts a collection of over 4000 gourmet mustards from over 60 countries.
The website is at http://www.mustardmuseum.com/
Don't visit the site while drinking milk, or laughter might cause it
to come out your nose. (Sense of humor is a prerequisite.)
You can buy a "Poupon U." collegiate t-shirt or sweatshirt, earn
(buy) a diploma, and learn the school fight song(s) (there are both
Wisconsin and South Bend versions) and what might best be called the
"Mustard Barrel Polka" (though the website doesn't name it as such, only
by the incipit "Roll Out the Mustard!").
See astonishingly lifelike virtual exhibits, with nuggets of info
such as "Mustard at the U.S. Supreme Court."
Barry Levenson is the perpetrator (curator) of the museum.
(And yes, you can buy stuff online.)
For Levenson, mustard goes well with everything, including clarinets.
