ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF MUSIC - CLARINET

Northeastern Illinois University is a comprehensive state university of
11,800 commuter students located on a 67-acre campus in a residential
neighborhood on the northwest side of Chicago. Along with quality
academic programming consistent with the University's mission of
excellence and access, the University is known for support of the fine
arts, global education opportunities for students, a strong track record
in external grant funding, and leadership in teacher preparation and
education. Northeastern is nationally recognized as having the most
ethnically diverse student body in the Midwest.

The Department of Music at Northeastern Illinois University invites
applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor entry-level position
in Woodwind beginning Fall Semester, 2004. An earned doctorate in
relevant discipline is required. Responsibilities include studio
clarinet as well as related courses, including woodwind methods,
pedagogy, and repertoire and performance seminars. Ability to teach
saxophone is a plus but not required. Topics within area of
specialization and other music courses may be assigned as needed.
Additional responsibilities will include coordination/ development of
the woodwind area and student recruitment. The preferred applicant must
be an active performer and have an aptitude for teaching. Review of
applications begins December 15, 2003.

In addition, the University has outreach centers in the metropolitan
area: The Center for Inner City Studies addresses educational needs in
the African-American community on the south side of Chicago, El Centro
provides educational opportunities in the Hispanic community on the
northwest side of Chicago, and the Chicago Teachers' Center is actively
engaged in Chicago public school reform. Northeastern Illinois
University is an active participant in the Multi-University consortium
campus in the northern suburbs.
