Thank you for this technique. As a middle school band director, this
technique may well come in handy. I haven't yet had a barrel that I
couldn't get loose, but I inevitably will! I'm filing this in the "Good to
Know" file! Thanks again.

Knowing Mark Charette he may already have something like this!

Removing stuck barrels can be as simple as rocking the barrel slightly to
break the seal, but when someone asks for help it is usually beyond this
stage.

Because this is a plastic clarinet my first suggestion is to place the upper
joint with the barrel in the refrigerator for about 2o minutes. This may be
enough time to allow the joints to move away from eachother.

Barring that , here is my "tried and true" method.

You will need:

1.an old belt
2.piece of thin rubber ( cut this from an old rubber or
latex glove)
3.vise

Make a loop in the belt and place it loosely in the vice. Wrap the barrel
joint with the rubber or latex (this is for a good grip).
Place the barrel joint in the loop and cinch it down tight and tighten the
vice so that the barrel is gripped very tightly.
Now grasp the upper joint with both hands (avoid applying pressure to the
trill keys) and twist.

This may take some force for really stuck barrels, but I have never failed
with this method and I have never broken or damaged a clarinet this way.
