This is referred to as the forked Eb/Bb. It allows you to trill easily with
good sound between Ab and Bb in the clarion register (Db to Eb in the
chalumeau register). All you do to trill then is move the middle finger on
the left hand. You can also use this in fast passages that are not trills
for moving up and down between these two notes.

On a standard Boehm system, you have to make this trill with the first
finger of the left hand. The clarion Bb has a muddy, poor sound this way
but it is sufficient to give the trill effect. However you can't use that
Bb fingering for anything slower than a fast trill because of the sound of
the Bb.
