Will -

This works for me when my students experience your problem:

1- Grasp the upper joint firmly in your left hand, and the barrel firmly in
your right hand (reverse these directions if you are left-handed, of
course).
2- Firmly (but slowly), apply back-and-forth pressure with the right thumb
and fingers to the top portion of the barrel, until you feel the seal break
loose. Then remove the barrel as you normally would.

Obviously, you would stop applying said pressure before the plastic (or wood
in the case of a different horn) starts to crack. (Believe me, you'll hear
it - it's a very distinctive sound!) My experience has demonstrated that
there is always some "wiggle room" for the barrel to move around a bit, even
when it's fully seated on the upper joint. Please let me know if this works
for you. Be well.

Sincerely,

Will Jackson

P.S. Isn't it neat that we have the same first name?

Yeah I know stupid. Well here's what happened.

I have been listening to Benny Goodman and Eddie Daniels for the last
few days and couldn't wait until Thanksgiving to get my repaired
clarinet back. I found my old plastic clarinet that I used in high
school. I had a barrel and mouthpiece in my sock drawer and scrounged
up a #3 Rico Royal. It played. I could play!! after 7+ years of little
to no playing.

So I go to take it apart and put it away. But the barrel is stuck. I
look at the clarinet and remember that the upper cork had been re-corked
a while ago. I didn't have any cork grease, but the barrel went on
just fine. heh now it won't come off. It feels like it's been soldered on.

Now how do I get it off? heh. Yeah I could have just asked the question,
but how would you all have been able to make fun of me? hehe

Thanks for any suggestions.
