The Yamaha YCL-34 is their lowest-level wood clarinet, comparable in
price
to the Selmer Signet/100 or Noblet. Decent student horn.

Bill Hausmann

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is TOO LOUD!

I used to play one of these, actually. They retailed for $800 back then.
And then it got stolen. grr... I could actually get it to play _much_
better than most people's R-13's.

The YCL-34 used to be Yamaha's better of two beginner-level clarinets.
However, if you went to any band store, it was listed as an intermediate
clarinet because it played much better than any beginner-level clarinet
and a few intermediate-level clarinets.

I think because of this, Yamaha stopped making the YCL-34 and added a
zero to the end of all of their model numbers to make them one digit
longer.
