Most of my beginners use a #2 to start with for the first several
months. They use a 2 1/2 from 6 months to the end of the 2nd year. I
always keep around some Gonzalez 2 3/4, which many of them use until the
end of 7th grade. A lot of them use #3 by the end ot 7th grade. Many 8th
graders are using Gonzalez 3 1/4, which seem to work through high
school. That's just my students. Everybody is different.
