I have had very good, consistent results with Sharpeye, distributed by
Ricordare. They have a website (www.ricordare.com, I think, but if not,
there may be a link from the Finale website - www.MakeMusic.com). I have
found scans made with Sharpeye to be more accurate and less in need of
editing than either SmartScore or PhotoScore Pro. Of course, there's a new
version of PhotoScore out now, so there may not be as much difference, but I
think Sharpeye is cheaper (it was when I bought it). For transposition,
you'd have to export the scanned music file to a notation editor or a
sequencer program. Sharpeye outputs MIDI, NIFF or Music XML, so you should
be able to find a program that will accept its output and do what you want
to do. SmartScore has more editing capability within itself, but I've found
it (in the version I own, which I think is the newest one) to be
significantly the least accurate of the three.
