There`s no brush left to scythe in Croydon dear Lelia, only my pension high
rise HQ, and a fairly vast spread of Macdonalds`, Burger Kings` and
Woolworths. Other memorabilia include a Government Job Centre that can`t
cope, thousands of one-way streets, several shops which sell out of
graffiti spray canisters quite regularly, and a concert hall with no
resident professional orchestra.

Incidentally the state of our whole country leaves something to be desired,
in-so-far as we have designed, financed and built dozens of 2.000+ seater
concert halls around our major cities, yet we all expect our musicians et al
to perform in them for peanuts. Example: a new professional orchestra set up
in the North East, and ready to perform it`s first concert in one of these
magnificent halls had the rug, (a very big rug) pulled from underneath it`s
feet on the eve of this concert. The orchestra folded. So did the concert.
We are told there may be another attempt next year to secure it. I call this
corporate robbery worthy of litigation.

Another example of the affected rich tom-foolery:- we have the richest
football manager in the country (maybe in the world) suing his own majority
share holders over a race horse`s stud potential, when no agreements were
ever written down.
This will make wonderful reading in the newspapers.
He`s nuts, without intending the pun.

Another gripe of mine - I`ve got lots of them - I live on discontent - I
feed upon it - I`ll die discontented. Our flagship classical Radio 3 BBC
radio station will insist upon ramming down our throats the live or recorded
performances of our supposedly top players. About 12 last year from one
clarinettist. He puts himself about, so it`s not as if everyone cannot get
to see and hear him, and of course he`s going to take the work offered, no
matter by who. But I complained to the BBC that there are hundreds of
soloists` - clarinettists`, who deserve to be heard, and are not being
heard.
I heard nothing.

If you are all discontented with Bush, I`ll give you my vote, for what it`s
worth, but it won`t be for any one on your side of the ocean. My vote is for
Antony Pay. He`s logical, because he sees clearly. He doesn`t need any silly
advisers. He is understanding, and offers solutions to many problems. He is
a musician *and* a mathematician, so he should be able to come up with a
clarinet which has near perfect intonation. He`s argumentative to the point
of airing the occasional expletive, so he doesn`t suffer fools gladly,
which is where we came in with this political thread. Full circle. Could he
handle the position of President? He may not be interested, even if he were
invited, so it looks like a great deal of thinking will be needed inbetween
now and the next election to find a similar worthy candidate.
If not an Englishman, my next choice would be that guy who comes from
Austria, who rumour has it, he`s been a little short of courtesy towards
women. And also rumoured to expressing some sympathy for a past tyrant. I
think he`ll be the one!
