Gary, I just assumed the mouthpiece was a Woodwind mouthpiece and =
didn't
inspect it very closely. Fortunately, it's a school owned instrument =
but it
was nice of them to allow my daughter to try it out before anyone else =
did.
She had considered trying the bass clarinet and the band director has =
been
allowing volunteers to give it a try-they have 27 clarinet players in =
the
7th grade band at this point. Her biggest concern was how many people =
had
already played that instrument and how many "germs" were already on it. =
So
far, she is loving it and practiced more all weekend than I've seen her
practice in a month! She gets a very good sound from all her clarinets =
and
she knew immediately that the reed/mouthpiece she had been given was =
simply
not the combo for her on the bass. Em weighs 99 pounds and it's rather
comical to watch her play this bass clarinet. She has a friend who =
plays
tuba (also a girl) and the band director let her sit next to the tuba =
player
in band. =20
