What kind of mouthpiece did it come with? I have tried some of the
Woodwind Co. (a Leblanc) brand before and I thought they were reasonable
for the money. Probably a harder reed, I would try a 2 1/2 to start, would
help.

Alto and bass are really pretty similar. Give it a try yourself and see
what you can do.
