I stopped in an old, old hardware store in Wilkesboro, NC five years ago
while on vacation. After drooling over all the little goodies and neat
stuff. I asked the owner how he survived there in the hometown of Lowe's
Home Improvement.
He said "You can walk in my store and can buy one bolt, or screw, or even
just one nail, not a boxful, and you'll light bulbs and farm items and
dozens of things that are necessities you won't find at Lowe's...and the
owner will help you personally!"
It all boils down for me to service both during and after when it comes to
music instruments...I'll tweak my budget to pay the extra for that. The sad
part is the number of small music stores disappearing because they tried to
compete with the big guys on price only, and service got lost in the
shuffle.
