I can't agree here. In all my dealings with Phil Muncy, I have never =
bought anything from him that he wouldn't stand behind 100% or sell in =
anything but perfect condition. Heck, he met me in a blinding ice storm =
to fix my e-flat clarinet so I could use it in concert and I live 300 =
miles away. I spent 9 hrs. flying from Baltimore to Charlotte, NC. Then =
I spent another 10 hours driving what should have been a three hour =
drive. He didn't seem to mind, even though he had to come out and open =
his store just for me (and only me). He is the consummate business =
musician. I have had excellent service from Lisa Argiris too. There =
are still SOME good people out there. =20
Phil Muncy has a wonderful, full service music store. It just happens =
to be big. There is no law against that. The local music store caters =
to students. There is no law that says they have to serve the more =
advanced musician. These are choices that these people make. That =
forces me to choose to go where I get the service that suits my needs.
I have never liked the WWBW does business. They are sneaky and they =
have tried to cheat me more than once. I will never deal with them. I =
hate Wal-Mart too, for the way they treat their employees, especially =
women. I don't shop there either. But not all of the discount stores do =
business in a sly, under-handed manner. And those that don't will have =
my business.

Here's the other side of the coin. Low price is great, but what happens =
when the horn doesn't work?
Twice now I have had people bring in brand new bass clarinets or contra =
bass clarinets, bought from one of the "internet-catalog" vendors. One =
bass clarinet did NOT play at all, the contra was full of tiny leaks =
that make it play miserably.=20
In both cases, the customer had a terrible time getting the vendor to =
put the horn in playing condition. The conta guy finally gave up and =
paid me to do the work.
In both cases, it was either bent keys, mis-applied corks, or pad which =
simply did not seat.
Ofering prices as low as they do, the "internet-catalog" vendor cannot =
afford to give much service. I would guess that in 99% of the time, the =
box that the instrument is in is never opened between the time it leaves =
the manufacturer and the time it gets to the customer.
So, often, even though the initial price is low, the total cost of =
purchase can be quite higher than expected.
