...ah, but isn't this one of the basic themes of drama & literature?
Who chooses? Our free will, or cosmic forces beyond our understanding?
Do we choose which sounds we like best, or do we only respond to
'natural' forces?
I can see Spenser a few years from now, standing on a lonely hill under
a full moon, playing a clarinet fashioned from mandrake root, seduced by
having studied jazz for one fortnight too many, a black cat yowling
triumphantly (singing?) at his feet....
