Had a similar experience a few years ago with a fellow from Greece. He was a
musician with a cruise ship line, and pulled out his Albert clarinet with an
old worn Brilhart white Tonalin mouthpiece. He played stuff similar to what
Walter described, and even some current pop tunes. He was playing a 1-1/2
reed, and wanted a new mouthpiece as the Brilhart was literally
disintegrating on him. He tried everything on my shelf, even a nice old hard
rubber Brilhart I use for jazz...couldn't play. I finally dug around in the
junk drawers and found an old Black Brilhart #3, he slapped on his
reed...success. He later told me he opened the facing up even more on his
own.

I marvelled at the things the guy could do with his setup, absolutely
incredible. He settled here not long after and plays locally with two nephews
who moved from Greece, and sometime I'll pin him down for a few lessons in
his style.
