I recently bought a box of Olivieri "Handcrafted" reeds (just routine
experimentation). When I tried them on my Gigliotti mouthpiece, I was
surprised to see how narrow the reeds were at the tip compared to the width
of the window at the tip of the mouthpiece. The reeds seem barely to cover
the opening, and when I play on them I hear a distinct hiss that may be air
getting around the reed into the mouthpiece chamber. I've never noticed this
problem with any other reed I've tried (including older Olivieris). It was
the same when I tried the reeds on a couple of Vandoren M series mouthpieces
that I have lying around.

I'm interested to know, if anyone on the list uses these reeds, what
mouthpieces you're using them on and, if you have a way to measure the
window opening at the tip with any accuracy, what that measurement is.

Just curious.
