Rick,

I have always preferred the RC to the R13. I have had 2 sets of
the RCs and loved both of them.

The R13s always left me with a rather dry feeling after playing.
The color was stagnant to me. Although I do like many players'
sounds that use R13, it was just never the instrument for me.

R13s are only *that* popular in the US. They aren't "the" big
seller anywhere else. The RC was created in the early 70s, in
contrast to the R13 made in the 50s. You might also try the
Festivals, if you like the RCs better than the R13s.

As with all instruments that are mostly machine made, the
quality of ALL of the R13s *AND* all of the RCs are variable.
You probably did luck up with a good RC and some bad R13s. There
are good instruments in both camps. I would try more of the RCs
if you like them, and see which one is good for you...

You probably would do well to try Leblanc's Opus and Concerto,
Patricola's instruments, Selmer's Recital, Artys, Odyssee, and
Signature, Yamaha Custom clarinets, and, depending on where you
are located and your finances, Steve Fox's (in Toronto) handmade
instruments, which are in that price range too.

What area of the country are you in?
