My family puts in long trips (back & forth from Detroit to Japan) a couple
of times a year. There's no problems bringing CD players on those flights.
They may (will!) ask you to turn it on just to make sure it isn't something
else ...

On a side note for those of you keeping track, my oldest son (the clarinet
player) is now living permanently in Japan. He's recorded a CD as a member
of the Sereno Clarinet Orchestra, is teaching clarinet at the Sacred Heart
Academy and at the British School, is conducting "Stagecoach" (a good paying
gig, too - he's trying to figure out how _that_ happened ...), and will be
playing with the Kosei Wind Orchestra next month. Along with that work he's
also assisting in translations for master classes by visiting players and
working at a company called Intermusic as an interviewer of non-Japanese
musicians and as translator. I believe he's just submitted a translation to
the Japan Clarinet Society of an interview on behalf of Intermusic. He's
also looking at upcoming auditions with various orchestras around Japan.

You never know what life will bring around ...

Mark C.
