I've been using Roger Garrett's reed breaking in/adjustment method for the
past year: http://www.ocr.woodwind.org/articles/Garrett/garrett1.html
with great results using Vandoren V12 (80% playable using this).
It's also the first hit you get in Google using "clarinet reed adjustments",
so maybe everyone knows this.

Sorry Walter, but I don't have any experience with the Mozart reeds.

I just wanted to chime in about the Gonzales reeds. They are my favorite;
I can use them right out of the box with out messing with them.
Also, at this week's band rehearsal the guy next to me was fussing with
his reeds and his sandpaper (again). He was getting very frustrated
with his Vandorens and was about to open a brand new box (even though
he just started a new box a couple of weeks ago.) I said, "Here, try one of
these," and gave him a Gonzales F.O.F. #3. He stuck it on his horn and it
played perfectly. You should have seen his face light up!
He went right home that night and ordered some for himself, he was so
pleased.
