Ian,
When your music goes to your hard drive, is it then in .wav (wave) format?
This is what is required before you can burn it. I had similar problems when
using winamp to convert to .wav

Then you have to put the .wav file into a suitable burning software to burn
to CD. This software then has a facility to insert the appropriate gaps
(silence) inbetween each track.

I have Nero, and Cakewalk burning software. Cakewalk Pyro 2003 cost me £42
including shipping from Dolphin in Liverpool.
