I have my first R-13, too. It cost $50 brand new and came with a two =
year crack warranty, a naugahyde case cover, two barrels, mouthpiece, =
cap and ligature, a well-made Buffet swab and a nice little red round =
cork grease pot that had a little slot of its own in the case. I just =
got it back from being on loan and it still plays great. It still has =
the cork pads that were put on it in 1969. The only thing really wrong =
with it is that the keywork is loose (can't be swedged anymore). I'm =
thinking about maybe having it rebuilt (plating and all).

In the 60's, my first clarinet was a "Conn Director". It was an =
absolutely wretched clarinet. It cracked - hugely - in the first year. I =
practically cried. The crack went all the way thru and leaked air. I had =
to have it repaired twice. In the 4 years I played on it all the plating =
corroded off the keys revealing a metal that looks very much like lead. =
Potmetal!

I was sure glad to get my first Buffet R-13. It cost, brand-new, $250! I =
still have it.
