In the 60's, my first clarinet was a "Conn Director". It was an absolutely wretched clarinet. It cracked - hugely - in the first year. I practically cried. The crack went all the way thru and leaked air. I had to have it repaired twice. In the 4 years I played on it all the plating corroded off the keys revealing a metal that looks very much like lead. Potmetal!

I was sure glad to get my first Buffet R-13. It cost, brand-new, $250! I still have it.
