Last I heard, he IS alive and living somewhere in California. But at 93 or something like that I
don't suppose he plays much anymore. He appears to have fit himself quite well into the role of
Curmudgeon, aka Crusty Old Bastard, that he's been cultivating for over 60 years. But my God...if
I could play "Begin the Beguine" the way he did, I'd feel entitled to Crusty Old Bastardhood
too:-).

I'm not even going to speculate on what he'd be playing today if not Conns. Hell, I thought until
recently that Conn only made trumpets. Why start another equipment go-round? Every time I start
talking about equipment it costs me money, anyway.
