Given the nature of the e-flat clarinet, if I was in your shoes, I would =
find an e-flat player to do the work. At least that way, if things went =
wrong with the performance, it wouldn't lay on your shoulders, as an =
inexperienced player. You get what you pay for with e-flat clarinets =
and the people who set them up. If you don't want to spend bucks, rent =
one from Wiener's.

If you really want to learn to play one, then find someone who plays =
well and get some instruction - maybe try his instrument to see if you =
even want to really go that route. Take this person with you when you =
shop for a new instrument and LISTEN to what he says. Take lessons for =
a while too. You can spend an awful lot of money on an awfully bad =
eefer, and then have to live with the comments from everyone, because it =
won't do what you want it to. I spent months trying to learn on a =
baaaddd Selmer Paris eefer, before buying something decent and having it =
voiced, so it would play without insulting the ears of those who sat =
around me.

Subject: [kl] Effer choice

I have the opportunity to play the Eb soprano in an upcoming concert, =
and of
course neither I or anyone else in town seems to have one. I was =
thinking I
might spring for a "student" model, and I see that Vito, Amati and =
Selmer
all have a model in that category.

Please, I know the hazards of student vs. intermediate or pro, but this =
is a
one time shot and I don't want to spend a lot of bucks. I am hoping that
some of our list readers who work with students and student model horns
might give me a brief appraisal of the effer in these brands. I have had
several Vito clarinets and found them very satisfactory.

I would appreciate any assistance offered, and you may reply directly to =
me
if you wish. Thanks.
