Even if a bass clarinets was made out of cocobolo (which is even more rare
than grenadilla), cocobolo is almost as dense as grenadilla. It will not
let water soak in, much less "let the air go through the wood". That's
just silly.

I was not aware that wooden clarinets were ever lacquered.
