The manner in which an audio signal gets out of a MIDI (or any) player and
into a .WAV creator program is still a bit of a mystery to me. It's not an
understatement to say that I've spent 30 years fiddling with computers and
never feeling more than a rank amateur.

The other night I wanted to create a series of WAV files of the Lauber
quartet for a clarinetist who says she doesn't do computers (but she has a
CD player). I started out with my Gateway MIDI player which worked all
right but the volume of the created WAV file was a little low, even with
all the volume controls at MAX. So I opened Master Tracks Pro, and changed
the volume program from 100 to 127 (the maximum it will go) for each
instrument. The output went as if by magic into the sonogram program
(Audioview in this case) which saves the file in WAV format. Don't know
how it does it. I don't care as long as I get the file which I need.
