Haven't thought much about this until a few hours ago when I did an Internet
search on these words: ' midi to wav conversion ' The very first choice
was a tutorial on the use of Winamp, which is free. Here's the URL:

from that page to where I could actually download the software. Then I
went back to the above site and studied the instructions. Nothing worked -
that tutorial is out of date. The Winamp site delivers v2.91 now, not
v2.78.
So, I hit some of the forums and found a post where JonnyMac placed an
up-to-date tutorial. Here's the URL:

only have to pay attention to the input and output selections. (Cntrl P
goes right to Winamp preferences). For the input, use Nullsoft MIDI player
3.01, and in the configuration menu, the device must be ' DirectMusic /
Microsoft Synthesizer (with output). For the output, choose Nullsoft Disk
Writer plug-in v2.0c. In the configuration menu for the Disk Writer, you
can choose the output directory where the *.wav file is to be placed. Note:
When you open the MIDI file and play it, you won't hear any audio while the
recording is going on. If you want to play the *.wav file back using
Winamp, be sure to change the input device to ' DirectMusic / Microsoft
Synthesizer (no output and these words " no output " won't be seen in the
selection), and also change the output from Nullsoft Disk Writer to
DirectSound output v2.26. You'll be able to hear the output in this mode.
If you think you are recording something and can also hear music from you PC
speaker, then you know you don't have options correct and it's not really
recording.
This works well ! Still working on the MIDI for the Franz Krommer Concerto
in Eb for 2 clarinets and piano from Oliver Seely's web site, I deleted the
2 clarinet tracks and then recorded all three movements as *.wav files.
Then I did the same thing to the 3 movement Krommer Clarinet Concerto, Opus
36 also in Eb. Total size for 6 movements came out to be 475 mbs and easily
fit on a
700 mb/80 minute CD-R.
NOTE: You can probably use any software notation program to open up the
MIDI files and then delete the clarinet lines and then save them that way.
I use Smartscore because it also allows me to print out each clarinet part
separately.
