Part of the problem is that Vandoren #3 is equal to approximately 3.5 in
almost any other brand. This makes them way too hard for most beginners. A
number 2 Vandoren (2.5 in most other brands) would be more appropriate for
beginners. I started my daughters on #2.5 Mitchell Lurie reeds.
