For my first two years I was essentially self-taught on clarinet. The
left-hand sliver key was the ONLY one I knew for the Eb/Bb! I only found
out about the right-hand trill key later. I am still quite comfortable
using the sliver key in ascending chromatic passages, although the
right-hand key gets the lion's share of the work, along with the 1-and-1
fork fingering. My fingers are long, but not especially thick.
