--- Jumping back into the fray after a couple of years... :-)

When I played eFlat Clarinet, I had to cut off the Eb/Bb sliver key because
it just kept getting in the way of my "flying fingers". I added a short
attachment to the pad cup directly above the 2nd ring key (the cup that is
closed by the bridge key) and made a key similar to the saxophone "bis" key
playing Eb/Bb with only my thumb and first finger. Jeff Chan has the
clarinet now, and I think I put the sliver key back on, but I'm not sure...
It's been a while.

BTW, nice to see so many names I remember from the early years of this list!

Annie -

I, too, use the trill Eb-Bb key in chromatic passages because this is what I
learned 65 years ago. In thinking about the usage of the sliver key, I
imagine that my teacher did not teach its usage because he had large hands,
and thus found its usage to be clumsy, so he didn't teach it for chromatic
usage.

If my memory serves me correctly, I believe that several ladies on the list
have mentioned using the sliver key. Could it be that this is a "ladies'
key" because of their smaller hands. Men with large hands might find the
key difficult to use. Fortunately, my hands are not large enough to cause a
problem.

Just wondering (or wandering).

Regards,

Gene N.
