Anne -

If you don't use the left hand sliver key, you haven't studied Carl Baermann
3rd Division or the high flats and sharps Kroepsch Studies. Also, referring
back a month or so, these same Kroepsch Studies will get you well acquainted
with the trill keys F#.
Either that or you will have to be a real expert at sliding and
cross-fingering. There's enough unavoidable sliding and cross-fingering in
these studies as it is.

As a re-treaded amateur who has never has had great speed in the technique
department, I heartily recommend both the Baermann and the Kroepsch Studies
to make considerable improvement in most clarinetists' technique.

Plus, the Kroepsch Studies are very melodic and, while difficult, are a real
pleasure to practice and master. They will also sharpen your articulation
and dynamics -- when you follow the markings - after you have mastered the
notes.

Regards,

Gene N.

Some people call it "forked F#" in the clarion or "Forked B" in the
chalameau and it is a little key, shaped like a banana, played with the
ring finger on the right hand. I suppose there is another banana key for
the left hand, to play Eb in the low register, or Bb in the clarion. I
don't use my banana key on the left hand. ANNIE
