It will be a wonderful day when discussing things by text alone on the
Internet is replaced by 'text + video' such that we see each other's
body language and facial expressions in addition to the text. I have
reread many of my own messages and often I have been forced to say to
myself: "I didn't mean to sound this <angry / self-assured / demanding /
etc>."

I've never met anyone who is involved in this potential flame-war
(face-to-face) except for Steve Fox. But often 'Internet text' simply
doesn't match what I know of the actual people. This is the Internet's
largest disadvantage --- imo, of course.

Steve did me a major favor years ago; and as another poster said, I've
never witnessed Steve (in the flesh) being less than courteous and
charitable, including when I probably wore his nerves thin while testing
one of his period instruments. It wouldn't surprise me if everyone
(not just Steve) involved in this discussion proved to be agreeable
persons, if I had the opportunity to meet them.

It truly bothers me to see discussions go so badly awry as this one has
--- for purely 'artificial' reasons.
