I have just received this message from Stephen Fox.
I have unwittingly upset him. He wants you to know
that it is all okay. I note, with regret, that he suggests
in his last paragraph, that many of your postings
are as inaccurate as mine. Please accept my
apologies for bringing the Klarinet into disrepute.

I know nothing of Customs and Excise, except that
all my regular monthly parcels of East European
clarinet LPs from Canada regularly escape VAT
and associated collection charges. Bravo!!
When they came from Budapest (10 years ago)
they were very heavily scrutinised.

Where on earth did you get that idea?! There's no problem at all. Canada
and the U.S. have a free trade agreement, so instruments can be imported
freely with no restrictions or import duty.

Dan Leeson had to pay excessive fees getting his back across the border
because he stubbornly refused my instructions on the shipping method and
used a money-grubbing private courier service.

This is the kind of misinformation that's rampant on the Klarinet list, and
drives everyone in the profession absolutely round the bend. If you could
post something on the list correcting this, it would be very helpful.

Thanks,
Steve Fox
