It is clearly a bad time for great English clarinet players.

I never met Alan Hacker though I was advised that he had some serious
physical problems. His edition of the K. 622 incorporating basset notes
was very thoughtfully done and he made a substantial contribution to
clarinet history.

Should anyone on this list ever play the first basset horn part of the
Mozart Requiem in the Duncan Druce completion, you will find one section

to be a veritable basset horn concerto. It is the Benedictus and the
part was especially written for Hacker.

Because I know so little about him, I am anxious to read a responsible
obituary of Hacker.
