Tried all the things mentioned, as I started breaking this clarinet in
regularly in December...tried the sponge AND a Dampit AND even tried the
orange peel trick...and this is the first clarinet barrel it's not worked
on. I put my Buffet and Marigaux barrels and bells in a big Ziplocker...put
in orange peels...Buffet okay, not Marigaux. Then the sponge...same effect.

The problem lies I think in the fact that this Marigaux sat in the case
unplayed since about 1974 before I obtained it. It was okay UNTIL I started
using it a little each day to let it acclimate it back to life as a
clarinet. As I said the rest of the instrument is fine. So I intend to try a
Backun barrel and a Grabner...I want to give the instrument the opportunity
to show me what it's got before I scrap the project, even if it means extra
expense

> Play your clarinet more ! Or add humidity to your case while the clar is
stored in it - wet sponge/orange peels etc. Place the case in a more humid
area of your house. (Suggestions found in a search on the topic in the
woodwind.org archive). I had barrel rings come loose so after reading
everyone's comments on woodwind.org, I placed the barrel and a damp piece of
sponge in a ziplok bag. In about 24 hours, the rings snugged up fine.<
